ABOUT SPORTS MASSAGE
WHAT IS SPORTS MASSAGE?

Despite its name, sports massage isn’t just for sportsmen and women.  It helps anyone that is experiencing general muscle tightness or imbalances.  It also helps people who are recovering from a musculoskeletal injury or are experiencing general muscle or joint pain.

Another way of describing sports massage is ‘soft tissue therapy’ and it is effective in managing some of the side effects of modern life too, including repetitive strain injury, stiffness, fatigue and stress.

Sports massage involves us manipulating your soft tissues, including your muscles, ligaments, and tendons, fairly strongly. In addition to treating the soft tissues, sports massage helps to improve your circulation and release your lymphatic system to help eradicate toxins and waste substances from your body, improving your immune system and general state of health.

More specifically to those active in exercise, sports massage can boost performance, prevent injury, and aid recovery.

Hi, I am Heather, A Sports Massage Therapist, working from my home, in Penwortham, Preston.

I am passionate about all things fitness, health and well-being.  I find the human body and its capabilities wonderfully fascinating.  Along with working as a Sports Massage Therapist, I am also a Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer and Sports Nutritionist.  So you can rest assured you are in safe and knowledgeable hands.   I love to help people develop and maintain improvements towards their health, fitness and happiness, so feel free to pick my brains on any of this during your appointments.  (It's my favourite subject!)

Sports massage treatments have been important for me working as a Fitness Instructor, keeping me free from injury for work and also for competing as a Crossfit athlete.  Despite my current active lifestyle, I was in a sedentary office job when I was first introduced to sports massage.  Hours at a desk left me with crippling back pain and muscle spasms that would leave me unable to turn my head.  I found sports massage extremely effective in reducing my pain and symptoms.

I am aware that you may be unsure about how massage therapy can work for you, what to expect in your appointment, and have numerous other concerns and questions.  I have tried to cover some of these on the FAQs page, however, everybody and every 'body' is different so please reach out to me to discuss your individual needs and concerns.
